What is ‘the Special Needs Parent Podcast’?
The Special Needs Parent Podcast is a supportive source of connection and information for parents and caregivers of children with disabilities or extra needs AND connection and information from experts in the helping professions.
ABM®NM® practitioner Phoebe MacRae’s episode explores alternative, brain-based solutions to the challenges parents face in supporting their child(ren)'s development, particularly those with special needs.
WHAT IS ANAT BANIEL METHOD® NEUROMOVEMENT®?
On this episode of The Special Needs Parent Podcast Phoebe MacRae speaks about Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® which is a therapeutic learning modality. ABM®NM® practitioners prioritize the importance of creating an optimal, nurturing environment to support brain connections and development. Rather than looking to FIX a child’s “problems” ABM®NM® practitioners CONNECT with the brain of the child to provide opportunities for the child’s brain to grow new neural connections that lead to developmental milestones.
Anat Baniel Method® was created by Anat Baniel after 11 years of studying and working with Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais and 3 decades of working with children with disabilities and other populations experiencing pain and limitations.
Anat Baniel’s 9 Essentials for brain growth and change are discussed on the podcast episode. Also highlighted is the fundamental concept of a move away from a “fixing mindset” to one of connection between nervous systems. The 9 Essentials of NeuroMovement® outline Baniel’s understanding about how practitioners and parents can support the brains of children with disabilities to make new neural connections.
Phoebe’s special interest in the power of music, emotional connection, and the need for flexible goals in parenting are also highlighted, along with the significance and importance of self-care for parents.
